Mont Tauch President re-elected for 11th consecutive year.
August 2009
Jean-Marc Astruc, President of the Mont Tauch cooperative, which produces over 70% of all Fitou, has just been re-elected by the growers’ council in its annual election to serve an impressive eleventh consecutive term as President of Mont Tauch.
The coop has around 250 growers who choose a President each year to represent their interests, and in turn the President must decide on the coop’s strategy with the Director to ensure it is implemented and communicated to the growers. All presidential candidates must be growers themselves and Jean-Marc is also one of few remaining fourth generation growers, with three generations of the Astruc family currently working in his vineyards.
Since taking over the helm of Mont Tauch, Fitou’s most modern and dynamic cooperative, in 1998, Jean-Marc has seen Mont Tauch develop from a typical old style coop into a forward thinking, market driven and highly successful business.
Jean-Marc says about his role, "I enjoy representing the collective, long-term interests of the growers, and also that at the same time the cooperative system at Mont Tauch recognizes the best individual growers by individually vinifying their wines so they can be put into our top of the range wines like L’Exception and Les Quatre."
He continues, "As President it is my ambition to to get Fitou on the map so that more consumers know where it is and to raise awareness of Fitou as a quality wine appellation."
